DIY: Revive a Stained Skirt
Two fun facts about Kate: I love coffee too much, and I talk with my hands. The very predictable result being a closet of coffee stained clothing. The destruction of one skirt was especially disappointing, so I decided to try something new.
Disaster on the home front
The pattern helped conceal the unfortunate staining for a while. And when someone noticed, I would pretend that the stain had just happened. ("Oh man! Where did this coffee come from? I didn't even see that!")
But then I decided to stop living like a garbage person and fix the damn skirt. I have used Rit Dye on many occasions to darken clothing, so no reason a little dye couldn't cover my coffee shame here.
*For those of you who haven't used the dye before, unless you are dying a piece of untreated, patternless white cotton, your fabric is never going to fully take on the pigment of the dye. So putting this skirt in a black dye bath only serves to darken the original color.*
Simply follow the directions on the box, et voila! It's like having a new skirt, prime for new stains.
I've got a new attitude
You can't even see the stains! And as an added befit, the dye clung to threads in the pattern differently, bringing out the pink grid and really giving the skirt a new look.
